Dr. Julie Nguyen has a Bachelor of Commerce, Honours Economics (1995) from Concordia University (Montreal), a Master’s in Economics (1996) and a Ph.D. (2004) in Interdisciplinary Studies and Asian Research both from the University of British Columbia (UBC, Vancouver). She was a consultant for the United Nations in Hanoi in 1997, and worked for over ten years on many international development projects funded by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), the Asia-Pacific Foundation of Canada (AFPC), and others. Dr. Nguyen was a research associate at the Centre for Southeast Asia Research at UBC (1996-99), and a program administrator for the Master’s Collaborative Program in Asia-Pacific Studies at the University of Toronto (U of T, 2003-04). She conducted her post-doctoral research (2004-06) at the Munk Centre for International Studies at U of T, and taught courses in Political Science, Women’s Studies, Asia-Pacific Studies and East Asian Studies at U of T (2005-2010). She is currently teaching International Business at Centennial College. Dr. Nguyen is also a Director of the Canada-Vietnam Trade Council.
