Dave Kranenburg co-founded the University of Guelph chapter of Meal Exchange in 1997 and was a founding member of the national organization as a student director when it received charitable registration status in 1998. Now the Executive Director of Meal Exchange, he was a nominee for the Schwab Foundation’s Social Entrepreneur of the Year award in 2007 and is a member of the Steering Committee for Food Secure Canada. Meal Exchange exists to engage, educate and mobilize youth to work with their communities to alleviate hunger locally and achieve food security. Through his role with Meal Exchange he is responsible for: • Engaging and educating over 10,000 youth each year • Raising over $600,000 a year for local hunger relief agencies • Supporting youth-lead community food security projects such as: o University of Toronto students working with PeaceJam Toronto students to build an educational garden at an elementary school in Regent Park o Ryerson University students working with Evergreen Shelter to deliver a Friday night community kitchen o University of Ontario Institute of Technology students working with the Foundation for Sustainable Communities in building a greenhouse for a community garden Additional Responsibilities include: • 2010 to present: Steering Committee member for Food Secure Canada • 2010 to present: Consultant to Public Health Agency of Canada on development of web-based tool to educate public about links between poverty, health & food security. • 2009 to present: Advisory Board for PeaceJam Toronto • 2007 – 2009: Advisory Board for Mavericks of Social Change • 2008 – 2010: Planning committee for World Food Day events in Toronto • 2010 – present: Food Secure Canada, Steering Committee Edcuation: • University of Guelph - Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice & Public Policy • University of Guelph - Bachelor of Science in Zoology
